Q. What is Metro Omaha Softball?
A. Metro Omaha Softball is the official “softball provider”
under contract with the City of Omaha Department of Parks,
Recreation and Public Property. Metro Omaha Softball assumed
the duties of the old Omaha Softball Association on Jan. 1,
2003.
Q. Does this mean you put together leagues and
tournaments during the summer and fall?
A. Yes. We have developed a league competition program for
adult slow pitch, men’s and women’s fast pitch and youth
fast pitch. League play runs Sunday through Friday night.
Saturday and Sunday (until 4 p.m.) are reserved for
tournament competition.
Q. What kind of leagues do you have?
A. We have leagues for all levels of competition. You
register your team to play in the league that best matches
your competitive objectives and/or team talent level.
Q. Can we pick where we want to play and on what night?
A. Yes to both questions.
Q. When do you start?
A. League play begins the last week in April and continues
for 14 weeks for adult all adult leagues, meaning the season
will end approximately the second week in August. For youth
fast pitch, the season concludes the second week in July to
allow teams to participate in regional and national
competition that is held prior to Aug. 1.
Q. Where do we play?
A. Adult slow pitch league competition is played at the
Kelley Softball Complex (124th & Fort Streets), Seymour
Smith Softball Complex (69th & Harrison Streets), N.P. Dodge Park
(11100 John Pershing Drive north of I-680 and the Mormon
Bridge in North Omaha) and some selected single field
locations throughout Omaha. Youth fast pitch and other youth
league play is focused at the George W. Dill Complex at 71st
& Military Avenue and at N.P. Dodge Park and, on occasion,
at other single field locations throughout the city
Q. Is our team required to have a sponsor?
A. No. Sponsorship is an individual team decision. However,
a great percentage of our teams have some type of
sponsorship.
Q. Do we have to wear an “official” uniform?
A. No. Most teams, however, wear t-shirts or jerseys to
identify their team and/or sponsor.
Q. Can’t we just call and reserve a spot and pay you
later?
A. NO. We can include your team on a “teams that have
called” list but until we have received your registration
fees, your team is NOT registered to play. The sooner your
fees are paid the better your chances are of getting your
spot on the night you want to play and the field location
where you want to play.
Q. If I think I may want to be an umpire, how do I
register?
A. You pay a registration fee with Metro Omaha Softball that
covers the cost of administering the umpire program and your
registration with the Amateur Softball Association, the
governing entity that we use for developing rules for our
league play. Your registration with the ASA also provides an
insurance package. You must also purchase the correct umpire
uniform. Further, attendance at 2-3 umpire training clinics
is also required. Access the “umpire” page on this website
for all the information you will need.
Q. Can we pay umpire fees in advance?
A. Yes. Metro Omaha Softball offers "script books" that
teams can use to pay umpire game fees during the season for
all levels of play. The "scripts" function just like a check
that can be cashed. The books can be pre-purchased at the
office. There are enough "scripts" in each book to cover
umpire fees for the season.
Q. I’m new to Omaha and don’t have a team to play on. Can
you place me on a team?
A. Metro Omaha Softball is not structured to find teams for
individual players. However, we maintain an up to date “free
agent” information board at the office. If you are a player
looking for a team, we will be happy to post your contact
information on the “free agent” board. Team representatives
visit our office frequently seeking players.
